Turning 29 in Turkey

When you think of birthdays, you typically think of parties, friends, cake and getting older (BOO!). It’s mostly fun stuff though! Now I’m no birthday diva, but I’m realistic enough to know that I needed to adjust my expectations for a birthday in Ankara, Turkey. I mainly just hoped Meadows would return from work in time to have dinner together. BUT I WAS SO WRONG! A Turkey birthday is an awesome birthday.

thumb_IMG_6506_1024I already told you the celebrations started in Chapel Hill. The Carpenters were incredible with early celebrations – desserts and presents! AND Tudda delivered gifts from my parents and a sweet card from my grandmother. I obviously waited until my actual birthday (May 12) to open them.

Even in Turkey, I got calls and texts from family and friends back at home. I think I talked to my mom for TWO HOURS (best gift ever!). And right as Meadows got back to the hotel (in plenty of time for dinner together), the best surprise ever arrived…

thumb_IMG_6507_1024My besties had champagne, cake and a dessert tower sent to us in Turkey!!! I cried. These girls overcame language barriers and time zones to make sure my day was special. Thank you SO much to Carter, Ellie and Melody!

Meadows and I drank champs, stuffed our faces and opened presents. And the icing on cake (not literally haha): Grandmother (whom we refer to as “G”) included some old photos in my birthday card! Here’s a throwback to one of my earliest birthdays…

Thanks to everyone who made my Turkish birthday fabulous. Cheers to 29!thumb_IMG_6502_1024
